Misa took time to praise Joyce Combs and Mary J Blige for their influences, support and presence in her life. Groovey Lew, a recipient of the Maverick Award, showed us what it means to be humble. He has a long list of sports players and rappers that he’s dressed but even with the big names, he remains centered. Khalana Barfield, recipient of the Editor of the Year award, worked her way up from an intern to the beauty and style editor for In Style Magazine. Azede, recipient of the Designer of the Year Award, expressed nothing but humility for the HFR mission. Rachel Johnson, recipient of the Stylist of the Year award, praised the stylist before her for paving the way to where she is now. Tracee Ellis Ross, the infectiously joyful personality, received the Icon360 Award. Tracee expressed the love affair she has with fashion. Having access to Ms. Ross’ closet might have something to do with that. Lastly, HFR honored Shawn Outler of Macy’s. Shawn has taken the time to look at the various collections that come through HFR. Upon the closing of the awards ceremony, it was only right to watch a few designers rule the runway with their Spring/Summer 16 collection.
